Teh overthinking of shizz |
-Oh HAI! |
In case you have missed it, there’s a smart phone war blazing over teh internetz and in the media. One flag hails the iPhone, the other Android. After watching this war, appalled at all the dirt and misunderstandings, I now feel the need to clear things up a bit…
Personal preference regarding what is quality in a smart phone seems to vary greatly between groups of people. The whole core in the iPhone-Android-chasm stems from the single fact that some people prefer one pakage before the other. If you wonder, these two ”packages” are loosely:
1) easy simple but effective and functionally designed GUI’s and elegant designs
whilst other prefer
2) state of the art hardware, diversity and customizable GUI’s and “the extension of” freedom of choice
You can draw a clear parallel to the PC world, at least when looking at it historically. In this parallel, the iPhone camp are the people preferring Mac or Windows computers, and the Android camp are Linux users. Similarities also extend to the political sides where Linux and Android fans prefer the open source - “free” political environment, whilst the iPhone side as well as the Mac / Windows users are content with a well working OS and doesn’t care much about the politics…
Android fan
Please realize that there is a property of iPhone’s that you have overlooked, besides coolness and hip. Yes, it is the “magical property” you’ve been wondering about that makes so many others “foolishly” buy the Apple phones regardless of the facts that you present as reasons not to buy. There is evidence that there is something (this property) that sells the iPhone so well, since its a major success around the world. Just look at their sales figures. Now the big reveal, it’s *drumroll*
the design, both of the phone itself and the iOS GUI.
Now this is something I would wager that you never would have considered even remotely important, since its not very configurable… Just realize that everyone has the right to their own taste, and that the people buying iPhone’s have different needs from you, and therefore are NOT idiots for buying a product they value the most.
iPhone fan
Although I rarely see this, unless its a random troll, never bash Android fans for choosing Androids. Instead, when faced with a Android fan that says that you are a fool (and from what I can see, this happens a lot) for buying and iPhone, just point out that you evaluated other phones, and since you have a different taste than he/she you ended up with the best choice for you. If he/she still persists, smack them over the head with a large stick. Mostly, just enjoy your smart phone!
